Abstract : Nuclear and mitochondrial DNA markers have been used previously to validate the distinction of two sibling species of alfonsino, Beryx mollis and B. splendens. Here we report on the geographic structure of alfonsino (mainly B. splendens) at different geographic scales. High levels of gene flow were inferred at local and regional scales. Significant genetic differences were detected between populations of different oceans.
