Mouvements en mer des puffins fouquets de la colonie de Temrock (Nouvelle-Calédonie) : compte rendu de mission, 28 novembre – 08 décembre 2014
Abstract
Abstract – At-sea movements of wedge-tail shearwaters from Temrock (New Caledonia): mission report, 28 November – 08 December 2014. We aimed at determining the wintering area of the wedge-tailed shearwaters from the Temrock colony in New Caledonia. The specific objective of the mission was the recovery of thirty geo-localizers (GLS) which were fitted to reproductively active shearwaters at the end of 2013/2014 breeding season. A majority of burrows in the colony showed signs of recent reactivation . Seventeen banded birds (out of a total of 53), from 15 different burrows, were recaptured in the immediate vicinity of the latter. Eight of these birds wore GLS, which were recovered. Preliminary analysis of the light recordings revealed an extensive wintering area in the tropical North Pacific spanning the ocean between 145°E and 160°W . We plan to recover the missing GLS early in the 2015/2016 breeding season.
