Species delimitation algorithms applied to a large CO1 barcode dataset of lanternfish Diaphus spp

Abstract

Here, we present a maximum-likelihood tree of 627 partial CO1 gene sequences of lanternfish, Diaphus spp., including 198 new sequences from the Tropical Southwestern Pacific marine bioregion. The tree is in ultrametric format, against which we present the results of species delimitation using the ABGD, GMYC, PTP and mPTP algorithms. Sixty operational taxonomic units or "species" were determined, of which 25 included haplotypes newly sampled from the Tropical Southwestern Pacific.
