DE LA FORMATION D'UNE IDENTITE COLLECTIVE CHEZ LES DESCENDANTS D'IMMIGRES VOLTAÏQUES NATURALISES IVOIRIENS DANS LA VILLE DE BOUAFLE/ COTE D'IVOIRE

Abstract : This paper aims to examine the mechanisms for the formation of collective identity among descendants of naturalized immigrants in Bouaflé, Côte d'Ivoire. It is based on qualitative data collected from individual and group interviews. The results show that the expressions of collective identification generated by the descendants of naturalized immigrants are marked by the desire for autonomy, visibility and legitimization of ethnicity. Beyond being a means of reproducing space, these expressions of collective identification are not only associated with the claim of Autochthony, but also become instruments of struggle for visibility. In short, they manifest themselves in the form of ethnic practices aimed at giving meaning to an ideal-type of reconstruction of origin.
