Collection Atlas of optical phenomena

This collection gathers the 45 plates of the book "Atlas of optical phenomena" (1962) of Michel Cagnet, Maurice Françon and Jean-Claude Thrierr. The foreword of the authors gives a good justification of the presence of these plates in the open archive of the SFO : "Having had occasion to devise a number of experiments, both for research and teaching, it seemed to us that it would be of interest to use them for the purpose of presenting a collection of photographs showing the principal phenomena of optics, with each plate accompanied by a brief explanation of the phenomena presented. We hope that the resulting collection will be of help not only in teaching, in that it shows experimental results demanding equipment which is not always easily available, but also as providing a starting point in research." |
